Student Members

“I joined DECA when I was a freshman in high school, and I grew as a leader each year.”

DECA members can begin their experience as early ninth grade if they have a career interest in marketing, finance, hospitality, business management, entrepreneurship course, or customer service.  If a middle school wants to have a DECA Chapter, they need to have a high school chapter be their sponsor.  Students can retain their membership in DECA as long as they plan to pursue course in one of the content areas listed.  As part of a chapter, DECA members should take full advantage of DECA activities such as attending the Fall Competitive Excellence Conference at Tall Timbers, the Pelicans Sports Marketing Conference in New Orleans, and the state Career Development Conference in Baton Rouge while preparing themselves to be college and career ready upon graduation.  In additional there are so many other educational conferences to attend on the international level.

With more than 45 events, DECA offers a competitive event for every class and every student.

Presidential Volunteer Service Award:

The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes United States citizens and lawfully admitted, permanent residents of the United States who have achieved the required number of hours of service over a 12-month time period (January-December) or cumulative hours over the course of a lifetime.

Hours that have been submitted for Community Service Activity hours and documented on the La. Department of Education documentation form (click HERE) may also be registered at https://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov.  Students are responsible for submitting their hours to the PVSA system and setting up their account. Hours may only be entered for the current calendar year.

The DECA Creed

I believe in the future which I am planning for myself in the field of marketing and management, and in the opportunities which my vocation offers.

I believe in fulfilling the highest measure of service to my vocation, my fellow beings, my country and my God--that by so doing, I will be rewarded with personal satisfaction and material wealth.

I believe in the democratic philosophies of private enterprise and competition and in the freedoms of this nation—that these philosophies allow for the fullest development of my individual abilities.

I believe that by doing my best to live according to these high principles, I will be of greater service both to myself and to mankind.
