DECA is an academic, professional high school association of students with a interest in any of the four career clusters of marketing, finance, hospitality/tourism and business management.  DECA's purpose is to:

  • integrate into classroom instruction through authentic, experiential learning methods that prepare members for college and careers,
  • apply learning by having members put their knowledge into action through rigorous project-based activities that require creative solutions with practical outcomes.
  • connect to businesses to provide members realistic insight into industry and to promote meaningful, relevant learning.
  • promote competition which drives members to excel and improve their performance.

These purposes determine the character of our chapter activities.  Through these DECA prepares the next generation to be academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, and experienced leaders.

DECA is comprised of over 190,000 members in the U.S. and other countries.  Louisiana DECA had 1,337 members in the 2010-11 school year.  These members include student members (9th-12th grade), alumni, and professional members.

Online Membership System
Advisors (even new ones) can use DECA's online membership system. The system offers some features for chapter advisors.

1) Drop-down menus now allow navigation of the system on any page.
2) Invoices are automatically e-mailed to chapter advisors (opting in) so there is no need to download it.
3) Chapter advisors can now indicate the number of DECA's Dimensions copies they would like in efforts to be environmentally friendly.
4) New chapters will be approved by DECA and the state/provincial advisor before they are created.

Instructions are embedded in the system to walk you through the process. Make sure the accuracy of the spelling and gender of all members is correct as this system is used for many components.  Remember that adding membership continues to be a two step process:  the members are added and then they all must be submitted.

To login, simply visit
http://www.decaregistration.com/hs and enter the information as requested on the screen. Your username and password will be sent to you via email.  Contact Paul Grethel for your username and password if you need it.  New chapters will need to set up their accounts.

If you have any questions about the system, please contact DECA by calling (703) 860-5000 and asking for the Data Management Department.

Dues are $16 in total of which $8 is your Louisiana DECA state dues and $8 is your national DECA dues--all money is sent to national DECA. Dues should be sent in by November 15 to get the first issue of DECA's Dimensions. To attend the La. State CDC, you must have your dues paid by January 26.
